Job description
Full-time Baker wanted in Brisbane to run daily bread, pastry and cake production for a busy bakery café.
The job is permanent, 38 hours a week, based in Brisbane, QLD, and pays $75,000 to $85,000 a year. Everything is baked fresh on site. Custom celebration cakes are part of the work. Overseas applicants are welcome, and visa sponsorship is available for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities
- Check raw materials, then weigh and measure ingredients for every batch
- Mix and shape doughs, batters, cake mixes, pastry and fillings into breads, rolls, cakes and tarts
- Handle trays, tins, ovens, temperatures and baking times
- Ice, glaze and decorate with cream, chocolate, fondant and sugar paste; design and make custom celebration cakes
- Plan production, then price, package and present stock so the café display is full from opening
- Keep mixers, sheeters and provers clean and running, follow food safety, hygiene and WHS rules, help create recipes and products, and supervise and train junior bakers and kitchen staff
Requirements
- Certificate III or IV in Baking or Patisserie
- A higher culinary arts or patisserie qualification is also accepted
- At least 1 year as a Baker, Pastry Chef or Pastrycook in a commercial bakery, patisserie or hotel kitchen
- Strong pastry and cake production skills
- Strong decorating skills
- Food safety and hygiene know-how
- Early mornings, weekends and a rotating roster
- Desirable: fondant and custom cake design
- Desirable: kitchen supervision or team leadership
- Desirable: customer-facing bakery or café background
