Job description

Professional kitchen experience is built through real service, consistent results and the ability to take responsibility when it matters. A hospitality business in Northland, New Zealand is seeking an experienced Chef who can demonstrate genuine expertise in Indian and intercontinental cuisine. The role is suited to a Chef whose practical experience can be clearly demonstrated through their cooking ability, kitchen knowledge and professional track record. You will be responsible for food preparation and cooking while contributing to menu development, stock management, food-cost control and overall kitchen standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook Indian, intercontinental and café-style dishes
  • Manage daily food preparation according to service requirements
  • Apply professional cooking techniques consistently
  • Maintain reliable standards for taste, quality, portioning and presentation
  • Assist with menu planning and development of specials
  • Contribute to food-cost control and efficient ingredient usage
  • Monitor stock and assist with ordering kitchen supplies
  • Coordinate preparation and service with other kitchen staff
  • Maintain an organised and efficient kitchen workflow
  • Follow food safety, hygiene and allergen-management procedures
  • Maintain a clean and safe professional kitchen
  • Provide guidance to other kitchen staff when required
  • Support smooth kitchen operations during busy service periods

Requirements

  • Proven professional experience as a Chef
  • Demonstrated practical experience preparing Indian and intercontinental cuisine
  • Strong hands-on cooking and food-preparation skills
  • Ability to manage kitchen preparation and cooking independently
  • Understanding of menu planning and food-cost management
  • Knowledge of stock control and food ordering
  • Sound understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements
  • Ability to maintain consistent food quality and presentation
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Reliable and organised work approach
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends
  • Relevant cookery or hospitality qualification is advantageous
  • Commercial café or restaurant experience is advantageous
  • Experience creating Indian and intercontinental menu items is advantageous
  • Experience supervising, training or guiding kitchen staff is advantageous
  • Overseas candidates must meet applicable New Zealand employment and immigration requirements
