Job description
A growing hospitality operation in New South Wales is seeking a Qualified Chef who can demonstrate the practical skills, responsibilities and professional experience shown in their career history. This position is suitable for a Demi Chef, Chef de Partie or Sous Chef who is comfortable taking ownership of a section and contributing across both regular restaurant service and larger events. The role provides exposure to à la carte dining, weddings, corporate functions and other busy services. The kitchen operates on straight shifts, with no split shifts, and offers a structured environment where reliability, teamwork and attention to detail are valued.
Key responsibilities
- Take responsibility for an assigned kitchen section during preparation and service
- Prepare and cook dishes for à la carte menus and function services
- Complete daily mise en place according to service requirements
- Maintain consistent food quality, presentation and portion standards
- Prepare meals for weddings, corporate events and other functions
- Work effectively during busy and high-pressure service periods
- Follow approved recipes and kitchen preparation procedures
- Maintain food safety, hygiene and workplace cleanliness standards
- Complete stock rotation and correct food labelling
- Monitor ingredient usage and assist with waste reduction
- Keep preparation areas and storage facilities organised
- Communicate effectively with the kitchen and service teams
- Assist senior chefs with smooth daily kitchen operations
- Provide support and guidance to junior kitchen staff when appropriate
- Help maintain consistent kitchen standards across different services
Requirements
- Recognised Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent
- Relevant professional experience as a Demi Chef, Chef de Partie or Sous Chef
- Demonstrated ability to independently run a kitchen section
- Practical experience in commercial food preparation and service
- Experience across à la carte dining, functions or events
- Ability to maintain quality and efficiency during busy services
- Strong understanding of food hygiene and safe food-handling practices
- Reliable and consistent approach to workplace responsibilities
- Strong communication and team-working ability
- Professional presentation and positive work attitude
- Availability to work weekends when required
- Current driver's licence
- Employment history that can be independently verified
- Ability to provide supporting evidence for qualifications and relevant work experience
