Job description
A well-established hospitality business in New Zealand is seeking an experienced Sous Chef or Senior Chef de Partie to join its busy kitchen team. This permanent full-time opportunity is suited to a skilled chef who can maintain high standards during busy services and contribute confidently across breakfast, lunch and dinner operations. The role offers variety across multiple hospitality venues, opportunities to contribute to menus and seasonal specials, and the chance to work within supportive kitchen teams. Baking and dessert experience would be an advantage.
Key responsibilities
- Preparing and cooking high-quality meals across breakfast, lunch and dinner services
- Seasoning and cooking food according to required standards
- Portioning food and presenting dishes with appropriate sauces, gravies and garnishes
- Preparing meals to meet special dietary requirements
- Coordinating food preparation with chefs and other kitchen staff
- Monitoring food and ingredient stock levels and maintaining quality standards
- Operating and regulating ovens, grills and other commercial cooking equipment
- Maintaining clean, safe and fully operational kitchen work areas and equipment
- Supporting the smooth running of kitchen services during busy periods
- Training and assisting junior kitchen staff where required
- Following workplace policies, food safety standards and kitchen procedures
- Assisting with functions, special events and additional hospitality services
- Contributing ideas for menus, seasonal specials and new dishes
- Working effectively as part of a close-knit kitchen team
- Taking responsibility for leading kitchen service when required
- Working rostered shifts including weekends, early mornings and late evenings
Requirements
- Proven professional chef experience
- NZ Register Diploma or at least 3 years of relevant commercial kitchen experience
- Strong cooking and food preparation skills
- Ability to manage breakfast, lunch and dinner services
- Experience working in a fast-paced hospitality environment
- Ability to maintain consistent food quality during busy services
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to take responsibility and lead kitchen operations when required
- Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends and rostered shifts
- Ability to follow food safety, workplace and kitchen procedures
- Baking and dessert experience is advantageous
