Job description
A strong Chef Manager brings more than cooking ability — they bring demonstrated skills, leadership experience and professional accountability. We are seeking an experienced Chef Manager for a residential aged care kitchen in New South Wales. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading kitchen operations, supporting a professional team and ensuring residents receive meals that are nutritious, enjoyable and prepared to a consistently high standard.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee daily kitchen operations and food preparation
- Lead and coordinate kitchen staff across daily service requirements
- Prepare and oversee nutritious and high-quality meals
- Develop and maintain menus suited to residents' dietary and nutritional needs
- Ensure food preparation meets food safety and HACCP requirements
- Monitor meal quality, presentation, consistency and portion standards
- Coordinate kitchen workflow to maintain efficient meal service
- Support staff training, development and day-to-day performance
- Maintain high standards of kitchen hygiene and workplace safety
- Review kitchen processes and identify opportunities for improvement
- Work with relevant teams to respond to resident dietary requirements
- Maintain positive relationships with residents, families and colleagues
- Promote a respectful, accountable and collaborative kitchen environment
Requirements
- Recognised Chef qualification supported by verifiable documentation
- Demonstrated experience working as a qualified Chef
- Previous experience managing or supervising kitchen operations
- Experience in large-scale catering, institutional catering or high-volume kitchens
- Strong working knowledge of food safety and HACCP principles
- Ability to prepare nutritious meals while maintaining flavour and presentation
- Ability to manage dietary and nutritional requirements
- Demonstrated team leadership and staff development experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Organised and reliable approach to kitchen management
- Aged care, healthcare or hospitality experience is advantageous
- Ability to provide evidence of qualifications and relevant professional experience
- Ability to satisfy applicable Australian employment and visa requirements
