Job description

Earthworks-focused technician job in Perth, Western Australia, working beside a Civil Engineer.

Full-time, permanent, Monday to Friday on 8-hour shifts. The salary is $80,000 - $90,000 per year. The employer is a civil construction and earthmoving firm handling earthworks and site preparation for homes, commercial sites and industrial developments.

Expect a mix of desk drafting in AutoCAD and Civil 3D and site visits for levels, material tests, inspections and quality checks. Subclass 482 Skills in Demand visa sponsorship may be available to suitably qualified applicants who meet the immigration requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Draft and revise earthworks, excavation, trenching and drainage plans in AutoCAD and Civil 3D; update as-builts, registers and technical documents
  • Measure levels, dig dimensions, earthworks profiles and drainage gradients on site and report differences from approved drawings and survey data
  • Help run and coordinate soil and material tests in the field and lab; analyse results
  • Inspect earthworks and drainage, monitor filling, backfilling and compaction, log non-conformances and report site issues
  • Calculate cut-and-fill and material quantities; prepare quantity schedules, tender documents and labour and material estimates
  • Check subcontractor submissions and method statements, brief site teams and surveyors, and keep reports, checklists and handover records

Requirements

  • Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering, Civil Construction, Building Engineering Technology or a related area (other qualifications with substantial relevant experience may be considered)
  • Minimum 2 years of civil engineering technical support, earthworks, site preparation, drainage or civil construction experience
  • Working knowledge of Australian Standards, including AS 3798 and relevant AS 1289 series parts
  • Practical AutoCAD and Civil 3D competency
  • Reads drawings and specifications, takes site measurements, helps with quantity calculations
  • Understands technical inspections, construction quality control and non-conformance reporting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word
  • MS Project desirable
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Current White Card, or able to obtain it before site work
  • Valid Australian driver licence (or able to obtain one) and willing to travel between project sites across Western Australia
