Job description
An established hospitality operation in Western Australia is seeking a practical and reliable Cook who can bring demonstrated commercial kitchen skills to a busy culinary environment. This role suits a cook who understands that successful kitchen operations depend on more than preparing food. Consistency, organization, stock awareness, cleanliness and teamwork all play a part. You’ll have the opportunity to apply your existing experience across the day-to-day kitchen operation while working alongside an experienced culinary team. The business primarily operates during lunch hours, allowing for most evenings off. Weekend and public holiday availability is required, with occasional functions potentially requiring additional shifts.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare ingredients and food items according to kitchen requirements
- Cook a range of dishes using commercial kitchen equipment
- Coordinate preparation and cooking to support smooth service
- Assist with plating and presentation of completed dishes
- Maintain consistent standards of food quality and presentation
- Assist with group meal preparation when required
- Work closely with the Head Chef and kitchen team
- Monitor stock and assist with inventory management
- Handle, label, store and rotate food products appropriately
- Apply effective practices to minimize food waste
- Keep preparation and cooking areas clean and organized
- Complete kitchen opening and closing checklists
- Maintain food hygiene and safe kitchen practices
- Work efficiently during busy service periods
- Contribute to a cooperative and professional team environment
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of relevant commercial cooking experience
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in a professional kitchen
- Ability to provide genuine and verifiable employment history
- Sound understanding of food preparation and cooking processes
- Ability to maintain consistent performance in a high-pressure environment
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Good attention to detail
- Reliable and responsible approach to work
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with kitchen staff
- Positive attitude toward teamwork and daily responsibilities
- Willingness to work weekends and public holidays
- Availability for occasional functions when required
- Ability to meet applicable sponsorship requirements where relevant
