Job description

A Christchurch rooftop bar needs an experienced Duty Manager to run busy evening and weekend shifts.

The facts first. It is a permanent, full-time role in Christchurch, New Zealand, paying $28 to $32 per hour on a 30-hour minimum contract. Closing shifts rotate, and Friday and Saturday evenings are fixed. The venue trades Tuesday to Sunday, is in its sixth year and offers full table service with shared plates and seasonal food. Mondays cover functions, cocktail competitions, presentation and staff training. Sponsorship is available for the right candidate. Starts can be immediate.

Key responsibilities

  • Greet arriving guests
  • Run reservations and answer customer enquiries
  • Take orders, upsell and process payments
  • Lead the team on the floor
  • Keep customers happy
  • Coordinate functions as the main contact
  • Keep front-of-house costs, overheads and rostering on KPI target
  • Train the front-of-house crew
  • Keep staff culture positive
  • Handle stock orders and the monthly count
  • Open and close the venue to standard procedures
  • Keep the workplace safe, healthy and legally compliant
  • Help develop new drinks, recipes, costings and menu marketing

Requirements

  • Minimum three years behind a bar
  • High-volume cocktail experience
  • Valid LCQ plus a current Duty Managers Certificate
  • Warm, welcoming personality with a positive attitude
  • Driven to succeed, keen to grow and develop, passionate about the industry
  • Available evenings and weekends (Friday and Saturday evenings non negotiable)
