Job description

Duty Manager needed to lead front of house at a licensed waterfront restaurant and café close to Nelson.

Permanent job. Hospitality. Nelson, New Zealand. At least 30 hours each week, with weekends and public holidays on the roster. Seats up to 200. Open every day. Summer is peak; winter is quieter.

You run the floor, brief the crew, hold the licence and close out the shift. The employer is accredited and may be able to sponsor a work visa for the right person. You must already have New Zealand work rights to apply.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead each shift on the floor and set the standard
  • Be the Duty Manager on licence: host responsibility, Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012
  • Brief staff at shift start; coach them through service
  • Keep everyone on the venue's systems, checklists and procedures
  • Cash-up, opening and closing done right
  • Accurate handovers
  • Calm guest feedback handling; bigger issues go to the Restaurant Manager

Requirements

  • Duty Manager Certificate (Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012), or can obtain one promptly
  • National Certificate in Food & Beverage Service (Level 3) or equivalent, or working towards it
  • Previous hospitality supervisory or shift-lead experience, plus good working knowledge of wine, beverage and food service
  • Reads rosters with confidence and follows shift wage cost expectations
  • Proficient in venue systems such as IdealPOS, NowBookIt, Operandio, Slack and Loaded
  • Right to work in New Zealand
