Job description

A crane workshop in Christchurch wants a Fitter / Turner and Welder who can machine, weld and repair lifting gear.

This is a full-time job in Christchurch, New Zealand, paying $36 - $40 per hour. The business started in 2017 and builds, refurbishes and services cranes nationwide. Time is split between the workshop and field service calls. You need New Zealand work rights or a willingness to go through the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) process, a sponsored work visa route.

Key responsibilities

  • Machine, modify and repair precision crane components on conventional lathes, mills and drills that you set up yourself.
  • Weld to certified standard and fabricate steel and aluminium structures for crane rebuilds and custom setups.
  • Diagnose breakdowns, fix mechanical faults and keep mid-to-high-level lifting systems on a preventative maintenance plan, all within New Zealand health and safety, engineering and workshop standards.

Requirements

  • Mechanical Engineering Trade Certificate (Fitting and Turning / Fabrication) or the NZQA Level 4 equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years post-qualification in heavy mechanical engineering, fabrication or plant maintenance; crane or hydraulics experience highly regarded.
  • Reads technical drawings and blueprints accurately; strong analytical problem-solver with a proactive approach.
  • Legal right to work in New Zealand, or willing to undergo the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) process.
