A professional HVAC services business in Waikato, New Zealand is seeking a capable HVAC/Refrigeration Service Technician to support commercial and industrial customers across a broad range of systems. This position is suited to technicians with a solid employment background and practical experience in refrigeration, air conditioning, chillers and central plant systems. You will be expected to troubleshoot independently, complete quality maintenance and repair work, and represent the business professionally when working with customers. Your qualifications and employment experience should be supported by appropriate documentation, helping establish a clear and reliable picture of your professional background.
Key responsibilities
- Service and maintain commercial air conditioning and refrigeration systems
- Complete preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing programs
- Inspect and maintain central plant chilled water systems
- Work with VRF/VRV systems and air-cooled and water-cooled chillers
- Service DX and chilled water process cooling systems
- Investigate and diagnose faults across HVAC and refrigeration equipment
- Repair compressors, fan motors, refrigerant circuits and associated components
- Install, commission and start up new HVAC and refrigeration systems
- Read and apply construction drawings, technical specifications and equipment documentation
- Complete ACR copper tubing and welding work where required
- Conduct system pressure testing and evacuation procedures
- Carry out authorised electrical isolation, disconnection and reconnection tasks
- Calibrate temperature controls and assist with BMS interfaces
- Assess equipment performance and identify appropriate technical solutions
- Maintain a consistent standard of workmanship across customer locations
- Communicate clearly with customers regarding service requirements and technical issues
- Follow site safety procedures, PPE requirements and workplace Health & Safety standards
- Participate in toolbox talks, site inductions and safety reporting
- Participate in the required after-hours callout roster
Requirements
- National Certificate in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning or National Trade Test Certificate Class III Assistant Tradesperson
- Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience in central plant systems and chillers
- 8+ years of relevant HVAC/refrigeration experience may be considered where formal qualifications are not held
- Strong commercial HVAC and refrigeration background
- Hands-on experience with chillers, VRF/VRV, DX and chilled water systems
- Demonstrated fault-finding and diagnostic capability
- Practical experience in installation, commissioning and system start-up
- Ability to understand technical drawings and equipment specifications
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned service work
- Strong customer communication and professional service skills
- High standard of workmanship and professional presentation
- Willingness to participate in an on-call roster
- Strong commitment to workplace Health & Safety
- Ability to provide documentation supporting qualifications and relevant employment history
