Job description
A well-established engineering and manufacturing business in Western Australia is looking for a First Class Machinist with strong practical experience and a demonstrated ability to deliver accurate, high-quality machining work. The successful candidate will work across CNC machining centres, CNC lathes and manual machining equipment, producing specialised components for demanding projects. This opportunity is particularly suited to tradespeople whose qualifications, employment history and hands-on capabilities can be clearly demonstrated and verified. Candidates with experience using Okuma machinery, One-Touch programming and precision engineering processes are encouraged to apply.
Key responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC machining centres and CNC lathes
- Program CNC machines according to production requirements
- Operate Okuma or comparable CNC equipment
- Apply One-Touch programming techniques where applicable
- Read and work accurately from engineering drawings
- Determine appropriate tooling, materials and machining methods
- Operate manual lathes and conventional workshop machinery
- Produce precision-machined components to specified tolerances
- Measure and inspect components to confirm accuracy
- Diagnose machining faults and resolve equipment issues
- Perform routine machine care and maintenance
- Maintain accurate and consistent workmanship across production tasks
- Follow workplace safety, quality and production requirements
- Work effectively with other members of the manufacturing team
Requirements
- Trade qualification in Metal Machining or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years of post-trade industry experience
- Demonstrated practical experience in precision machining
- CNC machining centre experience
- CNC lathe operating experience
- Okuma experience highly regarded
- One-Touch programming experience advantageous
- Ability to accurately interpret technical drawings
- Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling and materials
- Ability to provide verifiable employment and trade experience
- Forklift LF Class licence preferred
- Australian Driver’s Licence preferred
- Ability to meet pre-employment medical requirements
- Ability to complete drug and alcohol screening
- Full Australian work rights or eligibility for employer sponsorship
