Job description

An established automotive workshop in Victoria is looking for a Motor Mechanic – Light Vehicle with the qualifications, practical experience and technical understanding to handle modern vehicle servicing and repairs with confidence. The role is suited to a mechanic whose professional background can be supported by genuine qualifications and employment experience, and who can demonstrate the ability to diagnose faults, carry out repairs and maintain high workshop standards. You will work on a broad range of light vehicles, including European vehicles, while using modern diagnostic technology and established technical procedures. Strong practical knowledge, attention to detail and consistent workmanship will be important to success in the role.

Key responsibilities

  • Complete scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance
  • Perform routine engine servicing and oil and filter replacements
  • Carry out vehicle inspections and identify mechanical issues
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment
  • Investigate fault symptoms and determine suitable repair solutions
  • Service and repair petrol engines and associated components
  • Inspect, service and repair transmission systems
  • Repair braking, steering and suspension systems
  • Replace worn, damaged and defective vehicle components
  • Dismantle mechanical assemblies for inspection and repair
  • Reassemble engines, transmissions and other components correctly
  • Use manufacturer specifications, service manuals and technical information
  • Complete repairs in accordance with appropriate workshop procedures
  • Conduct post-repair inspections and vehicle testing
  • Road test vehicles to confirm safe and correct operation
  • Maintain accurate job, repair and parts records
  • Follow workplace health and safety requirements
  • Maintain clean, safe and organised work areas
  • Communicate effectively with other technicians and workshop staff

Requirements

  • Recognised Motor Mechanic – Light Vehicle qualification or equivalent trade qualification
  • Minimum 12 months of relevant automotive industry experience
  • Demonstrated practical experience in light vehicle servicing and mechanical repairs
  • Sound understanding of modern vehicle mechanical and electrical systems
  • Proven fault-finding and diagnostic capability
  • Hands-on experience with engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension and steering
  • Ability to interpret technical information and manufacturer repair procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Current driver's licence
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a professional workshop team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professional and reliable approach to workshop responsibilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy automotive environment
  • European vehicle experience will be highly regarded
  • Experience with Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, BMW or Mercedes-Benz will be advantageous
  • Ability to substantiate qualifications and relevant employment experience with appropriate documentation
  • Ability to satisfy the requirements associated with available sponsorship
