Job description

A well-established automotive repair business in Otago, New Zealand is seeking an experienced Panel Beater / Repair Technician with a strong record of quality workmanship. This role offers the chance to apply your existing skills in a professional workshop environment while continuing to develop your technical capability. The business has been family owned and operated for more than 65 years and services a broad customer base across the region. The workshop handles a variety of repair work, including structural and prestige vehicles, with experience working on brands such as Tesla and Jaguar Land Rover. Alongside hands-on work, the role provides access to I-CAR certification training, health monitoring and opportunities for continued professional development.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out panel beating and vehicle repair work to professional standards
  • Complete assigned repairs within expected target hours
  • Review job documentation before starting each repair
  • Confirm repair requirements and procedures before commencing work
  • Trial-fit replacement parts to verify accuracy and compatibility
  • Report incorrect, missing or additional parts promptly
  • Follow job sheets and approved repair instructions
  • Seek technical clarification whenever repair requirements are unclear
  • Ensure all specified repairs are completed before vehicles enter the Paint Department
  • Label removed components with the relevant job number
  • Store stripped parts in the designated area and record their location
  • Prepare completed repair parts for painting
  • Complete accurate vehicle reassembly
  • Check headlight adjustment and required vehicle alignments
  • Carry out final quality and safety inspections
  • Sign off completed repairs after meeting required standards
  • Maintain an organised, safe and professional working environment

Requirements

  • Trade qualification equivalent to Level 3 or Level 4, or at least 3 years of relevant technician experience
  • Proven experience as a Panel Beater or Vehicle Repair Technician
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality repair work
  • Ability to work independently and manage assigned repairs
  • Ability to contribute effectively within a team
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Commitment to workplace safety and repair quality
  • Currently living in New Zealand or holding a valid applicable work visa
  • Willingness to undertake I-CAR and other relevant training
  • Sponsorship available for the right candidate
