Job description

A growing multidisciplinary consultancy in NSW is seeking a Planning / Architectural Draftsperson to support a diverse range of residential and medium-density projects. This position is suited to a professional who can demonstrate genuine hands-on experience in architectural documentation, AutoCAD drafting and planning processes. Much of the work involves existing buildings requiring assessment and documentation following fire, tree or vehicle damage, making accuracy and the ability to understand existing structures particularly important. Beyond producing drawings, you will contribute to planning documentation, Development Applications, consultant coordination and project submissions. Your work will form part of the wider project process, giving you the opportunity to demonstrate your technical capability, reliability and ability to work independently. For someone who can consistently deliver accurate work and take ownership of responsibilities, there is scope to develop into a senior or lead position as the consultancy grows.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed architectural drawings for residential and medium-density projects
  • Measure and document existing buildings accurately
  • Interpret site information and develop clear architectural documentation
  • Prepare preliminary layouts and assist with the representation of structural elements
  • Prepare Statements of Environmental Effects and Waste Management Plans
  • Review LEPs, DCPs and relevant planning controls
  • Prepare documentation required for Development Applications
  • Lodge Development Applications through applicable planning portals
  • Assist with monitoring and coordinating the DA process
  • Coordinate project information with specialist consultants
  • Liaise with heritage, bushfire, stormwater, structural, civil, surveying and arboricultural consultants
  • Produce and maintain accurate 2D AutoCAD drawings
  • Work confidently across model space and paper space
  • Follow established drafting standards and drawing office procedures
  • Check drawings and documentation for accuracy before submission
  • Identify drafting and planning issues and develop practical solutions
  • Communicate clearly with clients, consultants and internal team members
  • Manage individual workloads and deliver work within agreed deadlines
  • Work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
  • Support the ongoing development of the consultancy's project and drafting processes

Requirements

  • Demonstrated professional experience in architectural drafting, planning or a related field
  • Strong practical proficiency in 2D AutoCAD
  • Proven experience preparing detailed architectural drawings
  • Ability to accurately interpret and document existing buildings
  • Experience with residential and medium-density projects
  • Working knowledge of NSW planning controls and development requirements
  • Experience with Development Application preparation and lodgement
  • Ability to prepare Statements of Environmental Effects and supporting documents
  • Understanding of LEPs, DCPs and related planning requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to drawing accuracy
  • Ability to identify problems and resolve technical issues efficiently
  • Experience coordinating with external consultants
  • Strong organisational and time-management abilities
  • Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of assigned responsibilities
  • Strong written and spoken English
  • Professional communication skills when dealing with clients and consultants
  • Competence with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Working knowledge of Adobe applications
  • Relevant qualifications and/or demonstrated industry experience
  • Experienced drafters are welcome to apply
