Job description
A leading Australian heavy vehicle operation is seeking skilled Heavy Vehicle Mechanics to join its Queensland team. The role is suited to technicians who can demonstrate not only mechanical knowledge, but a genuine track record of working confidently on heavy commercial vehicles. Your practical capability will be important across diagnostics, servicing, maintenance, repairs, rebuilds and breakdown response. You will work in a professional workshop environment with access to technical training, modern equipment and structured opportunities to strengthen your career.
Key responsibilities
- Diagnose faults and identify mechanical issues on heavy commercial vehicles
- Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance
- Complete mechanical repairs, component replacements and rebuilds
- Use appropriate diagnostic and repair procedures to resolve faults
- Work according to manufacturer specifications and workshop requirements
- Check completed repairs to confirm safety, accuracy and quality
- Complete job cards and service documentation accurately
- Respond to breakdowns at offsite and customer locations
- Participate in an on-call roster as required
- Work collaboratively with technicians and workshop personnel
- Assist apprentices with practical workshop knowledge and guidance
- Maintain professional standards when dealing with customers
- Follow workplace safety, environmental and operational procedures
- Participate in ongoing technical training and skills development
Requirements
- Recognised Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or relevant mechanical qualification
- Demonstrated hands-on heavy vehicle repair and maintenance experience
- A genuine employment history that can be verified
- Ability to provide supporting evidence for qualifications and previous employment
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding capability
- Practical mechanical problem-solving skills
- Commitment to safe and high-quality workmanship
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Current car licence
- HR licence is desirable
- Forklift licence is desirable
- Kenworth or DAF experience is desirable
- Experienced overseas truck mechanics are encouraged to apply
- Interstate heavy vehicle mechanics are welcome to apply
- Second to fourth year mechanic apprentices may also be considered
- Willingness to undertake ongoing technical and manufacturer training
- Sponsorship available for eligible overseas candidates
