Job description
Qualified Heavy Diesel Fitters, Plant Mechanics, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics and Agricultural Mechanics are being considered for residential opportunities within the underground hard rock mining sector in NSW. These roles are suited to tradespeople who have built their skills around keeping heavy machinery productive, reliable and safe. Your experience does not have to come exclusively from mining — practical experience in agriculture, earthmoving, civil construction, quarrying or heavy transport can also provide relevant transferable skills. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate their qualifications, employment history and hands-on technical capabilities as part of the recruitment process. This provides an opportunity for experienced tradespeople to have their existing skills assessed for a move into underground mining.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain and repair heavy mobile equipment in demanding operating environments
- Complete scheduled servicing and preventive maintenance activities
- Inspect machinery and identify potential mechanical faults
- Diagnose faults across engines, hydraulics, transmissions, drivelines and braking systems
- Carry out mechanical repairs, component replacements and equipment rebuilds
- Perform engine, transmission, final drive and hydraulic cylinder change-outs
- Respond to machinery breakdowns and complete repairs safely and efficiently
- Maintain underground loaders, haul trucks, production drills and other heavy equipment
- Use technical manuals, drawings and hydraulic schematics to support diagnosis and repairs
- Complete maintenance records, service reports and defect documentation
- Communicate equipment issues and repair requirements to maintenance supervisors
- Work alongside planners and maintenance teams to meet maintenance schedules
- Complete pre-start inspections and follow site isolation and permit procedures
- Maintain a strong focus on workplace safety and equipment reliability
Requirements
- Recognised Certificate III or equivalent trade qualification in Diesel Fitting, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics, Plant Mechanics or Agricultural Mechanics
- Demonstrated hands-on experience maintaining and repairing heavy machinery
- Ability to provide evidence of qualifications and relevant employment experience
- Strong fault-finding and mechanical diagnostic skills
- Practical understanding of hydraulic, engine, driveline and braking systems
- Underground hard rock mining experience is advantageous but not required
- Experience with Caterpillar, Sandvik or Epiroc equipment is highly regarded
- Relevant experience from agriculture, earthmoving, civil, quarrying or heavy haulage environments will be considered
- Current driver's licence
- Ability to work rostered shifts in a residential regional NSW environment
- Clear communication and effective teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently while following established maintenance and safety procedures
- Willingness to learn underground mining equipment and operating practices
- Additional mining, confined space, working at heights or first aid qualifications are advantageous
- Ability to successfully complete required medical and functional assessments
- Ability to meet drug and alcohol testing and National Police Check requirements
