Job description
A new gastropub in New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty is creating its opening team and is seeking three experienced Bartenders who can demonstrate genuine hands-on ability behind the bar. This opportunity is for hospitality professionals who understand that great bartending goes beyond preparing drinks. It requires product knowledge, customer interaction, attention to detail, responsible service and the ability to stay organised when the venue gets busy. Candidates will have the opportunity to bring their established hospitality experience into a new venue environment and contribute from the beginning.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and serve cocktails, beer, wine, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages
- Demonstrate practical knowledge of beverage preparation and presentation
- Provide welcoming, professional and efficient customer service
- Understand beverage menus and confidently respond to customer enquiries
- Operate POS systems and process customer payments accurately
- Monitor stock levels and maintain organised beverage inventory
- Assist with stock rotation, ordering and stock control
- Maintain cleanliness and presentation of the bar and service areas
- Care for bar equipment and maintain appropriate operating standards
- Apply responsible alcohol service practices
- Follow applicable New Zealand alcohol service requirements
- Assist with opening and closing the venue
- Complete cash-handling and end-of-shift procedures
- Work collaboratively with the wider hospitality team
- Maintain consistent service standards during busy periods
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of relevant professional bartending experience
- Demonstrated hands-on experience working behind a bar
- Practical knowledge of cocktails, beer, wine and spirits
- Ability to demonstrate relevant employment history and professional experience
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Reliable and professional approach to hospitality
- Strong attention to cleanliness, organisation and service standards
- Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays
- Applicants must meet applicable New Zealand immigration requirements
- Sponsorship available for eligible overseas applicants, subject to job check approval and immigration requirements

- Where an English test is required, applicants must meet current Immigration New Zealand English language settings or an accepted exemption
