CNC Machine Operator / Machinist

You will work across CNC milling, turning and multi-axis machining, with exposure to one-off components, short production runs, complex industrial parts and repair or refurbishment work. The variety of assignments makes this a strong fit for machinists who prefer technically challenging work over repetitive production. Candidates will be assessed on the credibility of their professional experience, practical machining knowledge and ability to demonstrate the skills required for the position.

Key responsibilities

  • Set up CNC machinery according to job requirements
  • Prove machining programs and optimise settings for accurate production
  • Operate CNC milling, turning and multi-axis equipment
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and dimensional requirements
  • Choose appropriate tooling, workholding and cutting parameters
  • Manufacture components to precise engineering tolerances
  • Carry out measurements and quality checks throughout the machining process
  • Identify and correct tooling, setup and machining issues
  • Use practical judgement when approaching unfamiliar or technically demanding jobs
  • Complete one-off and low-volume machining assignments
  • Work on complex and larger industrial components
  • Perform machining for repair, refurbishment and component modification
  • Monitor finished components for dimensional accuracy and quality
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship across all machining activities
  • Follow workshop safety, quality and operating procedures
  • Complete jobs efficiently while maintaining required standards
  • Assist with improving machining methods and workshop processes
  • Share practical knowledge and work cooperatively with the wider engineering tea

Requirements

  • Proven experience working professionally as a CNC Machinist
  • Demonstrable CNC machine setup, proving and operating capability
  • Experience in CNC milling, turning and/or multi-axis machining
  • Ability to manage machining jobs independently from setup through completion
  • Practical experience within a precision engineering environment
  • Background in one-off, small-batch or high-mix machining
  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Good understanding of machining tolerances and precision requirements
  • Knowledge of tooling selection, cutting parameters and workholding
  • Strong practical troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to make independent technical decisions during machining operations
  • Experience with complex or larger industrial components is advantageous
  • High level of attention to detail and quality awareness
  • Strong commitment to safe working practices
  • Reliable and professional approach to workshop responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with an experienced team
  • Relevant CNC machining or engineering qualification is advantageous
  • Professional employment history and technical expertise must be capable of verification
  • Applicants must satisfy applicable New Zealand employment and sponsorship requirements
