Job description

Heavy vehicle mechanic wanted for a road transport fleet in regional NSW.

The job is Diesel Motor Mechanic, permanent and full-time. You work from Dubbo, or from a second Riverina workshop with rotating stints in Dubbo. Pay is $85,000 - $110,000 per year.

Expect hard diagnostics, repairs and preventive servicing on prime movers, trailers and bulk freight units, keeping trucks moving and in line with NHVR, chain of responsibility and WHS rules. Hiring needs a licence, a medical and a drug and alcohol test.

Subclass 482 visa sponsorship is on offer for suitably qualified people. Those already holding a valid Australian visa get preference, which is not a requirement.

Key responsibilities

  • Service engines, gearboxes and brakes on schedule, logbook work included, to OEM specs
  • Diagnose and fix electrical, mechanical and emissions faults with advanced tools
  • Rebuild big components; fabricate when needed
  • Stay NHVR compliant and keep audit records up to date
  • Work safely and run work orders in the fleet software
  • Head out for roadside callouts
  • Show drivers how to check vehicles and report defects

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of heavy diesel mechanic work, ideally in road transport
  • Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology qualification; NHVR standards and bulk freight equipment know-how is an advantage
  • Skilled with diagnostic software, with knowledge of petrol and diesel engines
  • Current licence, and able to pass a medical plus drug and alcohol testing
