Job description
Great upholstery is demonstrated through the work you can produce, not simply the title on your CV. This opportunity is for an experienced Furniture Upholsterer with a genuine trade background and the practical ability to take on a wide range of recovering projects. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate consistent workmanship across different furniture styles and operate confidently with minimal supervision. A credible employment history and genuine hands-on experience will be central to the selection process.
Key responsibilities
- Upholster and recover furniture ranging from antique pieces to modern designs
- Complete furniture preparation, stripping, recovering and finishing work
- Assess different furniture pieces and apply suitable upholstery techniques
- Carry out quality upholstery work with minimal supervision
- Use upholstery tools, machinery and associated equipment safely
- Handle and position furniture frames throughout the workshop
- Lift furniture frames onto and off work benches safely
- Move and load furniture into vehicles when required
- Maintain accurate, clean and professional finishing standards
- Work with specialist team members involved in sewing, cutting and frame construction
- Maintain a safe and organised working environment
- Complete 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday
- Support additional working hours during busy periods when required
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of professional furniture upholstery experience
- Strong hands-on experience with both traditional and contemporary furniture
- Demonstrable knowledge of furniture recovering techniques
- Ability to work confidently without extensive training or supervision
- Genuine and verifiable employment history in the upholstery trade
- Physically capable of lifting and moving furniture frames
- Competent in the safe operation of relevant upholstery tools and equipment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to professional workmanship
- Reliable and prepared to meet full-time working commitments
- Flexible to work overtime when required
- Cutting and sewing experience is advantageous
- Furniture frame-making experience is advantageous
- Must meet applicable sponsorship eligibility requirements
