Permanent Heavy Excavator Operator wanted in Auckland, New Zealand.

Key facts first. You run a 30-tonne tracked digger with shear, grapple and magnet in a scrap recycling yard. Pay is $35 - $40 per hour. It is full-time, minimum 30 hours, up to 50 hours a week.

The work is fast and busy. You process scrap from start to finish, from heavy steel down to loaded export containers. Safety comes first on this site.

Key responsibilities

  • Shear down car bodies, machinery and steel beams
  • Grapple-sort metals and feed the baler and shredder
  • Stockpile ferrous scrap with the magnet; keep lanes tidy
  • Do pre-start checks every day and handle hydraulic lines on attachment swaps
  • Load export containers

Requirements

  • 30-tonne-plus excavator time
  • That time gained in a scrap metal yard, heavy demolition or quarry setting
  • Direct experience on hydraulic shear, grapple and magnet (essential)
  • Valid NZ Class 1 licence plus WTR endorsement (highly preferred)
  • Strong spatial awareness near trucks, machines and ground crew
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
