Maintenance Fitter

Job description

A strong maintenance career is built on more than a trade certificate. It comes from hands-on experience, technical judgement and the ability to keep critical equipment operating when production depends on it. An established FMCG manufacturing operation in Western Australia is looking for an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join its permanent maintenance team. This role is suited to a mechanical professional who has worked with production machinery and understands the importance of preventing failures rather than simply repairing them after they occur. You will have the opportunity to apply your fitting and maintenance skills across a range of plant and equipment while contributing to production reliability and workplace safety. Key responsibilities

  • Complete planned preventative maintenance on production machinery and fixed plant
  • Carry out breakdown maintenance and mechanical repairs when required
  • Diagnose faults and troubleshoot mechanical equipment
  • Identify early warning signs and address potential equipment failures
  • Maintain conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, motors, bearings and pneumatic systems
  • Perform inspections and scheduled servicing of production equipment
  • Assist with machinery changeovers and equipment adjustments
  • Support machinery upgrades, modifications and improvement projects
  • Investigate repeated equipment failures and assist with permanent solutions
  • Help minimise production downtime through effective maintenance practices
  • Maintain clear and accurate maintenance records
  • Communicate effectively with production and maintenance personnel
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in a safe and reliable operating condition
  • Follow WHS, food safety, hygiene and site procedures
  • Participate in continuous improvement and reliability initiatives

Requirements

  • Relevant Certificate III trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Fitting or equivalent
  • Demonstrated professional experience as a Maintenance Fitter
  • Experience in FMCG, food production or another high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Proven ability to diagnose and repair mechanical faults
  • Experience with production machinery and fixed plant
  • Knowledge of preventative and reactive maintenance principles
  • Hands-on experience with conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, motors, bearings and pneumatic systems
  • Ability to work effectively in a production-focused environment
  • Strong mechanical problem-solving and fault-finding skills
  • Commitment to safe working practices and equipment reliability
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Clear communication and sound practical judgement
  • Availability to work rotating day and afternoon shifts
  • Ability to provide evidence supporting relevant qualifications and work experience
