Job description
Wellington needs hands-on engineers to keep its electric passenger trains running.
The position is Maintenance Mechanical Engineer, based in Wellington, New Zealand. It is permanent and full-time, paying $38.25 - $45.06 per hour, with shift work and at least 40 hours a week. Several roles are open with a global rolling stock maker that maintains the city's electric fleet.
You fault-find, maintain, repair and recover electric multiple units and passenger carriages. The setting is safety-critical. Backgrounds in electrical, mechanical, rail, industrial or automotive engineering suit the work.

Key responsibilities
- Routine and scheduled maintenance checks, on time
- Fault finding, repairs, out-of-course work and incident recovery on electric multiple units and carriages
- Sound mechanical engineering practice, safety standards and health and safety rules in a safety-critical workplace
- Accurate paperwork and secure plant and equipment
Requirements
- NZQA Level 4 or 5 trade qualification, or equivalent
- That qualification in an automotive, mechanical or electrical field
- At least four years hands-on in maintenance, fault finding, repair and incident recovery
- Experience with relevant technical specifications, standards and practices
- Experience in heavy industry, automotive, locomotives, ships or similar
- Registered or licensed electrician: beneficial, not essential
- Willing to work shifts
