Job description

A strong marine technician is more than someone who can service an engine — employers need people who can diagnose problems accurately, work to technical specifications and deliver dependable repairs. An established marine service business in New Zealand is seeking an experienced Marine Technician / Outboard Motor Mechanic with a proven background in marine engines and related mechanical and electrical systems. The role is suited to technicians whose qualifications and employment history can demonstrate genuine industry experience. You’ll work on a varied range of marine equipment, from routine servicing and fault diagnosis through to engine installation, commissioning, electrical troubleshooting and customer-site repairs. You’ll also have the opportunity to broaden your technical knowledge through exposure to different marine systems and ongoing manufacturer-focused training.

Requirements

  • • Diagnose faults affecting marine engine mechanical and electrical systems
  • • Investigate fuel, cooling, starting and charging-system problems
  • • Service and maintain outboard and other marine engines
  • • Perform engine repairs, component replacements and mechanical adjustments
  • • Dismantle engines and associated assemblies for inspection and repair
  • • Inspect components for wear, damage and operational defects
  • • Reassemble engines and components in accordance with technical specifications
  • • Complete routine servicing and preventative maintenance programs
  • • Carry out engine tune-ups and post-repair performance testing
  • • Use electronic diagnostic equipment and relevant manufacturer software
  • • Diagnose and repair marine wiring, starting and charging systems
  • • Work on MerCruiser sterndrive and inboard systems when required
  • • Install and configure outboard engines and control systems
  • • Fit gauges, wiring, controls and associated marine equipment
  • • Install marine electronics and accessories as required
  • • Complete pre-delivery checks and engine commissioning
  • • Participate in sea trials and operational testing
  • • Attend customer locations for mobile servicing and repairs
  • • Document faults, repairs, parts and completed service work accurately
  • • Follow manufacturer service procedures and technical documentation
  • • Maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment
  • • Deliver reliable workmanship while meeting required service standards
