Public practice Accountant wanted in Wollongong, NSW, full-time, with around 2 to 3 years of Australian experience.

The job sits in the accounting team of a business that also handles tax, lending and financial advice. You prepare statements, returns and BAS for SME clients, companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals. A Senior Accountant reviews your work. Client contact grows as you settle in.

Mentoring and CPA or CA support come with the role, plus a clear path to Senior Accountant, then Client Manager. Sponsorship may be considered, depending on experience, fit for the role and visa eligibility.

Key responsibilities

  • Financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals
  • BAS preparation and day-to-day accounting and tax jobs for SME clients
  • Individual returns plus year-end tax planning support
  • Client contact, and ATO liaison where needed
  • Own workflow and statutory deadlines, while helping the Senior Accountant run a client portfolio on Xero and other cloud systems

Requirements

  • Around 2 to 3 years in Australian public practice accounting
  • Hands-on experience with financial statements and tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals
  • Good working grasp of Australian tax and compliance, including BAS work
  • Strong Xero user who can handle competing deadlines
  • Good verbal and written communication; strong eye for detail
  • Degree-level (tertiary) qualification in accounting, commerce or equivalent; CPA or CA studies (or plans to start) highly regarded
