Job description

Melbourne needs a Financial Accountant for a growing digital marketplace group, starting temporary with a set path to permanent full-time work.

The job is in Melbourne, VIC, and pays $90,000 - $120,000 per year. It is listed as a contract and set up as temporary-to-permanent. You report to the Financial Controller and line up daily with the CFO.

The work is hands-on. Think month-end, balance sheet accuracy and statutory compliance across several entities. An assistant accountant does the daily transactions; you go over the core ledgers and back up cash and budgeting tasks. Expect core accounting and tidy reports, not complex modelling, in a lean team with a direct line to senior leadership.

Visa sponsorship is on offer for eligible Working Holiday visa holders already in Australia with proven accounting capability.

Key responsibilities

  • Post journals, reconcile balance sheets and prepare consolidated trial balances
  • Handle BAS/GST, payroll tax reconciliations, leave provisions and FBT returns with outside tax advisers
  • Go over the offshore Assistant Accountant's invoice entry, receivables chasing, payroll runs and daily processing
  • Manage intercompany loans, recharges and eliminations for audit-ready balance sheets
  • Keep the short-term cash flow tracker current and report actual-versus-budget expense variances
  • Gather data for annual budget roll-forwards and speed up repeat reconciliations with the group's AI and automation tools
  • Prepare ad-hoc schedules and documents for executives on group restructures and new entities

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or Commerce
  • CA/CPA status, or an equivalent international qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA, completed or underway
  • Proven background in financial accounting with month-end ledger ownership and statutory compliance in Australia or a comparable jurisdiction
  • Strongly encouraged to apply: Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417 or 462) holders who have full Australian work rights
  • Strong personal accountability, high attention to detail and the adaptability to hold structure in a fast-moving scale-up
  • Clear, concise written and spoken communication and the confidence to work directly with executive stakeholders
