Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Cook with a demonstrable professional background who is ready to contribute at a higher level within a New Zealand hospitality environment. This role is suited to someone who can take ownership of kitchen responsibilities, maintain consistent food standards and help a team deliver during demanding service periods. Your previous experience, employment history and practical capabilities will form an important part of the assessment process. The role also provides the opportunity to broaden your understanding of restaurant operations, including menu development, supplier coordination, inventory management, food and wage costs, digital systems and team leadership. Requirements

  • • Prepare and cook food in accordance with professional kitchen standards
  • • Ensure dishes are delivered with consistent quality, flavour and presentation
  • • Inspect and assess ingredients before preparation and service
  • • Carry out food preparation tasks including cleaning, chopping, blending, seasoning, heating and cooling
  • • Monitor cooking processes and make adjustments when required
  • • Maintain appropriate procedures for dietary and special food requirements
  • • Coordinate preparation activities to support an efficient kitchen workflow
  • • Assist with directing and supervising kitchen staff during service
  • • Lead and support a kitchen team of up to 12 employees
  • • Work competently across different kitchen sections as operational requirements demand
  • • Assess the condition and quality of stock received from suppliers
  • • Ensure food and ingredients are stored appropriately
  • • Monitor inventory and communicate supply requirements
  • • Maintain kitchen equipment and utensils in clean and serviceable condition
  • • Contribute to recipe development and new menu ideas
  • • Assist with maintaining consistency across menu items
  • • Use relevant online systems for kitchen accountability and reporting
  • • Work collaboratively with suppliers to maintain quality and value
  • • Assist with purchasing and supplier-related decisions
  • • Monitor food usage and contribute to effective cost control
  • • Assist management with monitoring kitchen wages and performance
  • • Provide regular updates regarding kitchen operations and performance
  • • Support a positive, respectful and productive workplace culture
  • • Maintain effective standards throughout peak and low trading periods
  • • Use initiative when resolving kitchen and service issues
  • • Maintain food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards
  • • Follow established workplace policies and operating procedures
