Job description
A high-energy new restaurant operation in Queensland is looking for a capable and experienced Chef to join its kitchen team on a full-time basis. This role is designed for a Chef who can combine strong cooking ability with organisation, consistency and teamwork. You will be expected to take ownership of your responsibilities, maintain high kitchen standards and help create a smooth service environment as the restaurant establishes itself.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a range of Mexican-style dishes
- Follow recipes and maintain established food quality standards
- Ensure consistent presentation, flavour and portion control
- Organise preparation requirements before each service
- Manage kitchen workflow efficiently during peak periods
- Assist in coordinating and supervising kitchen personnel
- Train junior staff in kitchen procedures and food preparation
- Maintain food safety and hygiene standards
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures
- Monitor stock levels and communicate ordering requirements
- Ensure appropriate food storage and stock rotation
- Reduce unnecessary food waste
- Assist with kitchen cost management
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation across the kitchen
- Work as part of a professional and collaborative restaurant team
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a professional Chef position
- Relevant cookery qualification or equivalent industry experience
- Strong knowledge of commercial kitchen practices
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure
- Good understanding of food safety and hygiene
- Ability to maintain consistent quality during busy service
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Good communication and staff coordination skills
- Genuine interest in Mexican cuisine
- Willingness to participate in interstate training where required
